Perhaps the most annoying aspect of being nickle and dimed to death with fees and fines and tolls and service charges and conntributions is the time we waste being dunned and waiting for someone to actually collect what they want.
How much traffic congestion on the John F. Kennedy expressway, for example, is the result of three separate toll stations so Delaware and Maryland can collect their pound of flesh from people who don't want to stop? EZPass doesn't help, though it does make it easier to disguise how much people have to pay just to move their wheeled cages along.
It's no wonder the citizens of New Jersey are still irate about having the approaches to the George Washington Bridge constricted, making them late for work, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey continues to lose money as drivers transfer to alternatives.
There probably isn't anything more offensive than making people wait. 'Cause when you come to think of it, everyone's time on this planet is definitely limited and none of us can make more of it. Time is not money. Money we can make more of; not so time.
