There are sand hills in Georgia, as there are in New Hampshire, because the ocean's shore used to be much further inland.
The sand hill ecology is much different from the wetlands, but, wherever there are depressions, wetlands, even cypress swamps, thrive. In New Hampshire, they're recognized as "vernal pools" because they only last through the spring--just long enough for frogs to spawn and for tadpoles to grow legs.
